Default MIDI Locking question?

Can someone please tell me the best way to get my MPC2000XL to lock properly using Pro-Tools as the master?----It seem to drag behind a lil---not in perfect sync, so when I hit record my audio is placed all behind.

I have a G5 dual 1.8 with over a gig of ram running LE 6.7.

I've noticed in some past threads, some people have a Midi patchbays set-up with their PRo-TOols Midi. Is it necessary to have a midi patchbay?
