Default PT9 Graphics slowdown issue...

Hi all,

I've just moved onto the Pro Tools 9, which I've installed on my custom made PC, which has performed faultlessly with other DAWs I've been using it with for the last year. Specs below;

Core2quad 2.66ghz
4Gb DDR3 ram
Windows 7 64 bit
ATI Radeon HD 4320 (?) video card with 1gb ram on it.

I've installed PT9, and also the 9.0.2 update. Windows is up to date, ATI drivers are up to date. PT is using 3 of the 4 cores, each at 99%.

The problem is 'graphical slowdown'. The Counters don't turn over with quite the fluidity I've been used to with PT8 on my mac, and as the screen scrolls it jerks slightly. The meters also appear to suffer.

This issue does not appear to be from a lack of power - the smoothness of playback/counters doesn't really get much worse when I change from 32 mono audio tracks with no plugins, to those 32, plus another 24 in record, with a reverb, compressor, eq, bomb factory and chorus on each of the 56 tracks.

The program seems solid, but I'm reluctant to really rely on it with these wierdnesses.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Pro Tools is finicky about hardware, especially drives and chipsets. Also, since a few months ago, Avid has begun recommending nVidia graphics cards(not sure that this is your problem, just an FYI). Post a Sandra report as described here: Help us Help You - READ THIS Before Posting! and we'll see if we can spot a hardware issue. You also need to perform all the system tweaks as spelled out in the install instructions. And don't forget to set PT to always Run as Admin.
