MBox2 Pro and Apogee recording
I asked this question about a year ago, and I am wondering if there has been any change.
I want to use Pro Tools software that comes with my MBox 2 Pro for recording, but I want to use my Apogee Rosetta 800 to do the AD conversions, as it is a much superior quality to the MBox2. I can't see any way to get this to work, but is there another component that can be used in conjunction with these two, to make it work? Currently I have to record into Cubase, then input the files into Pro Tools, which is madness. The inability to combine these two is a deficiency of Pro Tools that astounds me - surely they know people would want to combine them? There must be some way, or is there likely to be in the future? Re: MBox2 Pro and Apogee recording
The only obstacle to using the apogee with your mbox is the fact that the mbox does not have adat connection , which is what the apogee uses. This has nothing to do with 'protools' software, only your choice of incompatible hardware. Sell your mbox and pick up an 002r ...they're relatively cheap now (a fraction of the cost of the apogee)and you'll be good to go.
(You do of course have some external mike preamps to feed your apogee....??)

Re: MBox2 Pro and Apogee recording
well I might just do that - I'l need to look at it anyway,
looking at Pro Tools site I have to say it's big on spiffy but very short on down to earth descriptions of what their products are for. I am finding it hard to work out the diference between the 002r and the 003r? Is there somewhere where these are compared in longhand? thanks |

Re: MBox2 Pro and Apogee recording
The 003's preamps are a little better spec-wise , less dist. and a little more dynamic range, which doesn't matter to you as you will be bypassing them with the apogee anyways. The 003 also has more robust monitoring features and word clock in/out. Those are the main differences, but as you will be using it basically as a 'dongle' with adat, take the money you save by getting the 002 and spend it elsewhere.
Just my 2-cents........

Re: MBox2 Pro and Apogee recording
yes, - what I was thinking. I have everything else - good valve pre-amps, and the apogee, which is why I went for the MBox, unfortunately not realising... I'l give it to my nephew.
thanks for the feedback m |
