Default Disappearing audio while editing

I recently upgraded to Protools 12 and am finding that when I work in older sessions from an external hard drive the audio will disappear when I move a clip from one area of the edit field to another. I have attached a video clip to illustrate. I don't seem to have this issue while working in new sessions. Is it just an issue data transfer speed from my G Drive? It's maddening.

I should add that the audio doesn't disappear from the session. I just undo the move and do it again and it works.

I would copy sessions from the G drive to your usual recording drive and see if that helps. If it does, I would immediately copy everything from the G drive to another drive(s)in case this is a sign that the G drive is failing Remember, if something doesn't exist in 3 places, its not backed up

I had been working off of that drive with my old Mac without any trouble. It's only started when i switched to the newer Macbook. I'll hope to upgrade to an SSD drive soon. Hopefully that will solve the issue. And the drive is backed up in triplicate. I've learned that lesson long ago.

If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know. I'm now working off a brand new SSD drive and still having the same issue.

Well, AVID to the rescue! This fixed this fixed the problem and would probably fix a lot of weird issues.

Thank you for contacting Avid support.

Regarding the issue, you could start by Deleting Pro Tools preference.

Deleting Pro Tools Preference, Workspace, and WaveCache files
These are important steps in order to resolve various issues, such as assertion errors, graphic or display problems, and other intermittent issues not specifically hardware or compatibility related. Be sure to quit Pro Tools before deleting these files, and restart your computer afterwards. The files will be recreated next time Pro Tools is launched.
Pro Tools Preferences
This procedure will reset Pro Tools preferences to a default state. Try this to correct odd or erratic behavior in the application:
Go to folder ~/Library/Preferences/Avid/Pro Tools
From the Finder, click on the Go menu in the menu bar.
Select Go to Folder.
Type in the following: ~/Library/Preferences/Avid/Pro Tools and click Go.
Delete all files in this folder, including:
AvidListFile.txt
DSIPrefs
InstalledAAXPlugins
Last Used.pio
Pro Tools Prefs
updater.properties

Pro Tools Workspace database files
Try deleting these if you experience file-based issues, such as problems searching for audio files in the Workspace.
Go to folder /Users/Shared/Pro Tools
From the Finder, click on the Go menu in the menu bar.
Select Go to Folder.
Type in the following: /Users/Shared/Pro Tools and click Go.
Delete the Pro Tools folder, which contains the following two files:
Workspace.wksp
WaveCache.wfm
Note: Deleting the workspace file will also delete any user-created catalogs.

Once done, launch Pro Tools. Go to Setup>Playback Engine and set up a Disk Cache. Set at least 20% of the amount of RAM you have on your computer. Click OK.

Go to the session folder and delete the DiskCache file there. This will make Pro Tools recalculate the wave cache information of the audio in the session. This file would be regenerated upon opening the session.

If the issue still occurring, try creating a session and import the session data of it to the new one and test.
