Pro tools 8.0.5 just stopped launching suddenly?!?!
So yes i upgraded to Yosemite, and all was working fine, Macbook pro Retina 15" SSD 8gbRam, along with my plugins and everything, just today i tried to start up pro tools and it is not working, it shows that it requires a version of OS that is 10.5.5 and higher.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall and the installer fails to launch too and it shows Incompatability Error, Pro Tools LE 8.0 requires Mac OS X version 10.5.5. the problem is that i think it read Mac OS X 10.1x and trips that its an old OS, what to do??!! has anyone had this?! Thanks |

Re: Pro tools 8.0.5 just stopped launching suddenly?!?!
Actually you may have searched the DUC for that before posting this because
this issue has been discussed and posted perceived a hundred times before. Anyway. Pro Tools LE8 does not work with ANY later Mac OS X than 10.6.8 Snow Leopard! This was the latest Mac OS PT LE8 was supported with and did work with. There is no way to get it to work on Mac OS 10.7.x, 10.8.x, 10.9.x and Yosemite 10.10 anymore. The only thing you can do now (as Iīm just guessing you want to keep your new system) is to upgrade Pro Tools from LE8 to Pro Tools 11. By the way itīs the best time ever before to do that because until Dec 20th 2014 Avid offers the upgrade for only $199.- which is $200.- off of the regular price. To do that you will need the serial number of any Digidesign/Avid hardware not older than the MBox 2 to be qualified for the upgrade. Please, mind, it has to be the serial no. of a Digidesign/Avid hardware, you canīt do it with the serial no. of your LE8 software only. If you got any Digidesign/Avid hardware not older than the MBox 2 you may find out itīs serial no. and go to the Avid store directly or to e.g. Sweetwater online store which both offer the PT upgrade for the same price. If you would want to have more continued, unpaid support I would recommend Sweetwater as they are known to be really great on support. http://www.sweetwater.com/feature/protools11/ http://shop.avid.com/ccrz__ProductDe...g=&&store=shop You didnīt write anything about any audio interface you have used with LE8 but, please, be prepared to have to replace this one too as most of the old audio interfaces which did work with LE8 perfectly, wonīt do this with Yosemite and Pro Tools 11 anymore. No matter if there are recent drivers available from Avid (for Mavericks), if you search the DUC and the web in general, you will find hundreds of reports where users canīt get these audio interfaces to work anymore. Itīs legacy for all the recent soft- and hardware actually. You may have a look at new audio interfaces there e.g. http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/compu...io_interfaces/ According to the connections on your recent MacBook you may find replacements from $150-3000.-, depending on your needs and financial resources. Finally wishing you the very best of success and much fun with the new stuff, all the best, VRW Mac Mini i7Quad, 16GB Ram, MBP Mid 2012 2,5GHz i5, 16GB Ram, MacOS 10.10 Yosemite, Apogee Quartet+Duet 2, Genelec Active, Yamaha NS10, Pro Tools 11.2.1, Logic 10.0.7, Waves, MCDSP, Duende Native, Softube, HOFA, IK Multimedia, NI etc. |

Re: Pro tools 8.0.5 just stopped launching suddenly?!?!
Thank you so very much, it's amazing that it was working fine all these years until last night, i was totally satisfied with PT8 and i had no need to upgrade so what a bummer..
I am using Mbox mini 2 as an interface, you think i can use its hardware serial for the upgrading process? and just one last thing, if i roll back to Mavericks, will it work again or nope?!

Re: Pro tools 8.0.5 just stopped launching suddenly?!?!
yeah, I definitely understand you as PTLE8 together with the fitting hardware and Mac OS 10.6.8 was a really good and
stable system indeed. As to rolling back to Mavericks unfortunately this would not make any sense because PTLE8 will not run on it also anymore. Mac OS Snow Leopard 10.6.8 was the last version you could use LE8 with, it was not supported and did not work with any later Mac OS actually. But the good news is , yeah, you definitely can use the serial no. of your MBox 2 Mini for the $199.- upgrade to PT11! Except you would have bought the MBox used from a prior owner who has used this serial no. previously on his own for any prior upgrades. If you are the 1st and original owner of this MBox there will be no problem! As written before you probably will face troubles on trying to use your MBox 2 Mini with Yosemite and Pro Tools 11 too. For sure you can try it out, but be prepared that there will be some issues probably. There you could find the latest driver for the MBox 2 Mini which was released for Mavericks actually. Thereīs no driver available for Yosemite yet and to be honest my guess is that there probably wonīt be any (working) for Yosemite either. http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...2-Mini-Drivers So I personally would not recommend to even try it out as installing the Mavericks-driver for the MBox already could mess up your whole system in a way. I really would recommend to go and buy an affordable yet recent interface comparable to the MBox 2 Mini instead. It probably will save you a lot of trouble. You however could try to sell your MBox on Ebay to still gain a few bucks out of it...!? Itīs of course just up to you what to do. Let me however suggest you the most popular and best sounding ones in this price range comparable to your MBox 2 Mini: Focusrite Scarlett Solo $99.- ...this is the cheapest yet good quality interface you can buy. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ScarlettSolo M-Audio M-Track Plus 2 $149.- ...this one is brand new and it comes with a small yet high quality selection of Waves plugins for free! I would tend to recommend this box in a way. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MTrackPlusII Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 $149.- ..this a the bigger brother of the Scarlett Solo http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Scarlett2i2 Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 $199.- ...this is the 2i2 plus built in Midi I/O and more Outputs http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Scarlett2i4 Those are all similar to your MBox 2 Mini, most of them even got 2 micpres/inputs whereas the MBox only has one. They are all of good, seriously usable quality despite they are quite cheap. If you are interested you can of course search on your own for others. http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/compu...io_interfaces/ Wishing you the very best and the best of success with your future system, cheers, VRW Mac Mini i7Quad, 16GB Ram, MBP Mid 2012 2,5GHz i5, 16GB Ram, MacOS 10.10 Yosemite, Apogee Quartet+Duet 2, Genelec Active, Yamaha NS10, Pro Tools 11.2.1, Logic 10.0.7, Waves, MCDSP, Duende Native, Softube, HOFA, IK Multimedia, NI etc. |
