Default TDM SCSI vs. Firewire

My SCSI drive has just died and I'm thinking of getting a firewire drive instead since it is alot cheaper. Any thoughts on this. I know for years SCSI was the way to go for protools but I'm wondering how much releavance that has in todays world. Will going IDE have any effects on performance/speed/etc?

PT 5.0.1 TDM system running on g4 500mHz OS9

Thanks,

Liebgott

AFAIR PT 5.0.1 has to work with drives connected to Digi SCSI bus - so you would have to upgrade to PT at least 5.1 first.

Strangly enough, PT 5.0.1 is not saying anythin about a drive connected to the SCSI bus (hasn't been connected for a week now). Maybe I will just go firewire. Does anyone know the specs of seek time/spin RPM and bandwidth of SCSI?

Firewire has a slower access speed than SCSI. Not a problem at lower track counts. But as your track count increases, you'll probably find yourself increasing the playback buffer to 4 & even 8 to compensate.
