Default S1 Motors on Faders Fighting me

Hello, I purchased 2 Brand New S1s in February from a Dealer, and then was part of the "Fader Automation 50 second" issue where I was given replacements direct from avid.

While the 50 sec automation issue is gone, One of the S1s is constantly fighting my movements even without any automation written. I just finished a project and decided to upgrade the firmware to see if it would help but it did not. I know something is wrong because my other S1 is fine.

Yes I have banked over the SAME track onto the affected S1 and notice a totally different feel, as if it is pushing the fader.

Both S1s are on firmware 20.1.4
Eucontrol 20.1.0.50
Happens on both 2019.12 and 2020.3
Mojave 10.14.6

I even notice this issue with the S1 on by itself, ie computer is off, and ethernet cable is NOT plugged in. I power on both S1s and wait for them to boot to the Avid logo.

I push up a fader on the affected unit all the way up and try and smoothly bring the fader back to zero and at about 0db I can feel the motor start resisting, and it slowly gets worse ie more resistant as i pass thru -20db, -30db and so on, until it is stops moving entirely.???

What is this? It does not happen on my other S1, again same firmware etc...

Clearly that unit has issues so send it back and get a new one. Of you wait too long and keep asking users here who have no clue whats wrong with one of your S1’s the option to replace might go away. It is not behaving as it should.

And you say yourself ”i know something is wrong” so go with your gut and replace it.
