I think it's okay, I used to use PT9 on 10.6.8 and didn't have so many problems (a part from my external hard disk but it doesn't come from the apple update). By the way I recently upgraded to Lion and it works great too !

Don't use Software Update. Download the Combo update from the Apple website. Google it if you can't find it.

Avid has always recommended using the Combo update, as it's less likely to cause issues with Protools.

The Combo update basically functions as if you're installing the OS from scratch, installing the whole program at once. Whereas Software update is basically just adding stuff on top. But the Combo update doesn't mess up your files and other stuff that you have.
