I had this issue but it happened after Audio Suite processing a clip. It's happened on 12.6+ for me.

Hey guys, isn't this more likely to be something weird going on in the I/O setup? I'd be tempted to delete all the outputs and revert to "default" or import settings that have definitely been known to work. Just a thought.

+1 defaulting i/o usually solves problems (but you need to redo it from scratch)

Update
Trashing prefs does not fix the problem.

This happens on 3 of our machines every now and then, we need to eiter toggle the output/input or deavtivate and reactivate the offender track which is a total letdown. The idea JFreak have works and Changing the buffer settings works here too.

Both our rMBP's with 10.8.5 and HD 12.4 and the other rMBP 10.12.2 aswell as one of our two nMP Trashcans with latest Sierra 10.12.3 and PT HD 12.7

It has been this way for our macbooks atleast a year or so abd we learned to live with that. Sometimes it affects the sound by making a bitcrush thingamajiggy and sometimes output stops on the track we last worked on and if that track was record enabled it messes with that track basically once a week when we start up after a weekend or a few days off.

Sorry to hear about you having these issues aswell and that i can't do anything to help or advice you as we have the same Evil doings happening here too.
