Default Command 8 vs 002R monitor section

Hi Folks,

Which would have the better monitor section between the Command 8 & the 002R & why?

I would guess the Command 8, but I would love to have all the facts…

Cheers

Whichever is most convenient to you.

I will be honest, I was hoping for a slightly more technical reply…

But thanks for taking the time to reply to my post anyway…

On the main Digi site the Command|8 is listed as having ‘Flexible Focusrite onboard monitoring section’

Where as the 002R is listed as having ‘Outputs 1 & 2 mirrored on 1/4" TRS monitor output (with dedicated volume control)’

So we can assume that the Command|8’s monitoring section is made by Focusrite & the 002R’s monitoring section is made by Digidesign.

So they are not identical & ‘Convenience’ only comes into play for me if they are both the same…

But the big question for me is; which is better for audio quality?

Cheers

P.S. I though this one would have been discussed to death, I even spent 15mins trawling through the search function & could find nothing…

My "convenience" answer stemmed from the fact that I had both a 002R and Command8 in the same room for a long time. I primarily used the C8's monitor section, but would sometimes use the 002R as another headphone output (and I used the 002R as my main monitor section prior to purchasing the C8). I noticed no appreciable difference between the two monitor sections.

They are both middle-of-the-road at best and if you're "serious" about tweaking out your monitoring capabilities/quality, then I'd suggest a dedicated outboard monitor device from a company like Coleman Audio (no affiliation), Dangerous Music, CraneSong, or (on the cheap) Presonus.

Bottom line, if you've got both in front of you - listen for yourself in your room and come to your own conclusion - that's the only possible way to make a decision. Otherwise, again, use whatever's most convenient to you.
