If upgrading from 10.7 to 10.8 having already installed ProTools 10, it will work fine:

See video for details. I run through a couple of things including my problems with the Retina display graphics.

That's not true; plenty of the reports are showing kernel panics.

I'm not being fanboy here, but getting up in arms about Apple abandoning hardware is a bit silly. They have done so since the Apple ][ days, more so than most companies. They are a hardware company and have always pushed obsolesce to drive hardware sales. They have been doing this since the Apple ][+ days.

It's part of the cost of the platform. An easy way to avoid it is to use Windows so you can get a viable roadmap of both the hardware and software side and legacy support.

We have added a compatibility article about Mountain Lion (includes info about Gatekeeper and software installation).

Avid Software and Mac OS X 10.8

That article addresses installation issues, but what about existing installs?

Can we install 10.8 safely on an OSX 10.7.4 machine with PT 10.2 already installed?

How about additional Avid resources such as the Eleven Rack plugin?

Thanks for any info.

You're kidding, right? The real issue isn't "getting it running." The REAL issue is getting other apps to run on it. So, sure, it's fun to get a non-qualified Mac to run an OS that wasn't intended to run on it. Yay, what fun, right? And then you'll cry foul when other developers' apps won't run on it on that non-qualified Mac.

...sheesh.

^ This.

We finally start seeing true 64 bit operating systems and the first thing people want to do is extend them with artificial 32 bit EFIs and think it won't cause problems.

Put your old Core2Duos to rest. They have no use for this iOS crap, anyway. Mine is going to keep running 10.6.8 until it doesn't turn on anymore.

I have a test system ready with Mountain Lion. So far (if you really want to) Pro Tools 10.2 is running flawlessly on OSX 10.8. First startup had some issues with not being able to open a session. After closing and opening PT again all works fine.

Will continue testing with Waves Plugins as well.
