Default Digidesign Sync Vs Big Ben on HD

I'm wondering if anyone has done any a/b comparisons as master word clock (Sync I/o vs Big ben). I'm not interfacing a ton of digital units (ie. digital console to recorder to cd burner), just using a 192, sync i/o, control 24, and the tascam 7.1 for monitoring.
I'm having a hard time justifing the $3,000 price tag for the Apogee ad-16x after reading posts regarding the 192's as converters.
Any ideas would help, thanks!

A clock like a BIG Benn is a genuinely usefull device when you've got a load of different devices e.g. I recently did a studio with HD3 192's apogees and a seperate PC with MOTU programming workstation and an external digital multitrack and it all needed common clock & synch etc it was great and essential.....but for what appears to be a self contained Digi system I think I'd save the money buy another accel card or upgrade my computer or get those nice golf clubs I always promised myself hell go on anice holiday etc.

Just my opinion (based on my experience), but the Big Ben improved the sound of the systems I used it on, including my HD2Accel and my client's HD3Accel. Give it a try. FWIW, the AD16x clock is supposed to be the same as the BB, but it won't provide all of the features, varispeed, etc.

The 192's were a big improvement over the 888's. I have used 192's and they sounded fine. IMHO the latest Apogees are another step up, but use your own ears. After all, it's your money, your clients, your work. For some, nothing is ever good enough!

Best....H
