Focusrite 6i6 with Eleven Rack (Newbie Questions)

I'm a newbie and have lots of questions and little time. My system is a Dell xps 8700 running Win 8.1, 64 bit. I also have a focusrite 6i6 which I use for my monitors. I recently bought 11R and PT11 and just yesterday I finally got PT to see the 11R. I did a test recording which worked fine, but I would like to hear it thru my monitors and not just headphones. Any suggestions??

1. Connect your monitors to the Eleven Rack.

or

2. Hang the the Eleven Rack as an outboard processor off the 6i6 (preferably via S/PDIF, and you can also use the S/PDIF output of the 6i6 to drive the S/PDIF input of the Eleven Rack for reamping). All of which is described very well in the Eleven Rack user guide. Time for you to do some reading. You can still use the Eleven Rack editor to control the Eleven Rack in this situation.

I would suggest using Darryls's scenario number 2.

Benoni ( the 11R guru around here) has a blog site with some excellent video tutorials on how to connect the 11R via s/pdif to another interface among all sorts of other stuff.

Darryl, I did read and watched a couple of videos on connecting the Eleven and Focusrilte via s/pif which I did (sorry should have mentioned it earlier) and still don't get anything thru the monitors. At least now I know I'm on the right track.

Well we can't help you unless you tell us exactly what you are doing. Common problems include not correctly connecting the S/PDIF output to the other boxes S/PDIF input and not having clocking set up properly between the devices. And you need the S/PDIF outputs in the Eleven Rack set to mirror main output or similar. And obviously the 6i6 needs to be the playback engine in Pro Tools.

Can you hook a CD or DVD player up to the 6i6 S/PDIF input and just start by confirming you can get audio from that (at 44.1 kHz). And in that case you need to clock from that S/PDIF input.

Have you read the relevant part in the Eleven Rack user guide and followed exactly those instructions. Do that and then ask about what you don't understand or other questions--but describe clearly exactly how far you got/what you have done.

I am running an apogee thunderbridge connected to a symphony and an eleven rack connected through spdif and its working flawlessly ....
you just have to enable spdif connections in ur focusrite control software and then work ur way out in the I/O window in pro tools 11 ...

To confirm, are you having trouble getting audio out from all programs, or just the 11r?

Are your monitors connected to the 6i6?

Do you get normal playback such as iTunes or YouTube?

In MixControl try hitting File > Restore Factory Defaults.

I'm happy to report doing some trial and error I've gotten sound out of pro tools thru my monitors now. In the scheme of setting up my studio, I will have some more questions but I want to try it on my own first before bothering anyone with a silly question.
