Default HDX Card without a fan - possible to use?

I found an HDX card that has the metal cover with the fan removed.
Is it going to be safe to use?
Apparently some has used this card without problems in a Sonnet box.

IIRC, some of the very early cards were fan-less. (Perhaps betas or prototypes.) If it's working well now and passes Digitest, it should be fine in a well ventilated case with an accessory fan blowing directly toward the card.

That would explain why actually the official HDX card installation guide shows a fanless design :)

Initial review copies of the card had no fan (ones sent out to reviewers; not just in-house testing.) They work just fine without a fan or additional cooling.

Only recommendation is using accessory-fan cooling if using a multi-HDX card setup; single card won't need it.

Another question is, the card doesn't the bracket that holds it in place inside the computer and I have already seen a few cards without the bracket. Can anyone guess why people would remove the bracket from the card?

Does a fanless card need a power cable?

I think the HDX cards inside the E6L live engine may be bracket less. So perhaps that's where it came from.
