Mbox 2 Pro As Primary Sound Card?!?
Is it possible to use the Mbox 2 Pro or any other Mbox as a primary sound card? I am running a Vista 32bit system and would like to use the Mbox with any program that has audio playback.
I realize Win XP has both wave drivers, ASIO drivers and the Digi MME Helper but has anyone had success with Vista? |

There are no Wavedrivers for Vista currently.

The main thing to remember is that Digi didn't design their hardware to be a generic, all-purpose "sound card." Their hardware is designed specifically to work with their software, and vice versa.

Well that’s unfortunate. I was really leaning toward getting LE 8.
From the looks of it, even if I install Win. XP on my system the wavedrivers + MME won't even support audio output from multiple applications (Multi-client). --- Correct me if I am wrong -- With the price tag on the Mbox you would think that basic soundcard functionality would be a given... something that even the most 'generic' soundcards possess. I am just puzzled by the limitations I suppose. |

But that's not what they designed it for. (You can't take a $40,000 Cadillac and run the Baja 1000, either. It takes specialized hardware! But a Baja-winner won't be worth squat on the street.) And that basic generic soundcard is in no way shape or form going to have Pro-Tools-capable operability. It was NEVER intended to be a solve-all piece of hardware. Just like a 1-inch 16 track won't work as an FM tuner...... |
