Default Macos X

I currently run LE 5.1 on a G4. I have aquired OS X and want to use it as it looks and seems great. At the moment I'm running 9.1. Can anybody give me advice on how to run OS X and continue to use 9.1 for running protools, like how to start it and wot i need to do???

If you re-format your internal HDD (from the Mac CD-ROM), you can partition it into 2 or more drives.

The install OS9 on one, and OSX on another.

All you then do to change between OS's is select Control Panels > Startup disk to change it.

Be warned: don't try and launch ProTools in OSX classic....I tried out of interest, and it fked Tools, requiring a re-install.

There is no need to reformat or partition ot run OSX. Simply install OSX on your system drive. To boot into OSX from OS9, go to Control panels-star-up disk-select OSX and restart. Your computer will boot into OSX. To return to OS9, to to system preferences, select OS9, save and restart.

There are many happy mac users (including us) that run OSX and OS9 on the dame drive and partition with absolutely no problems.

Also, FWIW, reformatting (AKA reinitializing) your hard drive will destroy all data on the drive, meaning you will have to reload OS9 and all appliations you currnetly have loaded, and you will loose all your files.

Hope this is helpful.

I know you can have OS X and OS 9 on the same partition as I did for a while with out any problems.

However one advantage of running them on 2 sperate partitons is that you can use the boot menu (just hold the Alt/Option key) which I have found usefull if I have just turned the mac on and want to go into 9 without the hassel of loading 10 first.

Just my $0.02
