Default Stereo/mono question

Hi!

I couldn´t find the answer to this in the manual so I thought you guys might know? If I have a stereo file that I imported in to PT, is it possible to separate the two tracks from each other so I have two mono files? The other question is: Is it possible to convert a stereo file to mono in PT? How do I do that?

Best Regards
/Anders Niva

You can go to file > split seperate tracks to mono.Stereo file to mono you can send the stereo file buss out, say buss 5-6 and open up an audio mono track buss in 5-6 and record it there.Hope that helps.

You can also create two empty mono tracks and drag the stereo file to them.

Pro Tools only works with mono files.. so as soon as you import a stereo interleaved file into Pro Tools it automatically splits it into 2 mono components.

Use Export Regions as Files (Ctrl+Shift+K) to save a split file as interleaved.

Thank´s for the answers! But do I need an other software to convert a stereo file to mono, or is PT capable of doing this?

You do not need other software. Open up a session and experiment. Might want to check out the manual from time to time.

I would think all you have to do is bus it to two different channels and record to get stereo? Like kick channel bus out 1 to Audio 1 and Audio 2 track with bus 1 as an input. Or I just thought this too, you can copy the track and paste it in the second track, may cause phasing though.

You can put a mono?stereo plugin on a mono track and it will change to a stereo track. I sometimes do this to a mono guitar track with the medium delay to spread it, setting different delay times for L&R.
