Default Is a OS clean install necessary?

with el capitan coming soon and being authorized for PT somwhere in the near future, a question keeps coming up: is a clean install of the OS really necessary in order to get PT running smooth? can it be avoided?
it would also mean reinstalling all plugins and reauthorizing all the non ilok ones which sometimes only give you a limited amount of reauthorizations, and relinking all the sample library paths.
i would say two days of install work i would rather spend making music.
is it necessary? what are your experiences?

thanks! do you also download and reinstall all your plugins or do you copy them from a backup disc of the old OS to the fresh installed OS?

And always, always, always have a backup BEFORE you do anything with the operating system.
