Default Digidesign sales are off around 20% from last year

From - http://www.analogindustries.com/

1. Digidesign has laid off 50 people this year. Avid as a whole has laid off almost 300.
2. Digidesign sales are off around 20% from last year.

So will Digidesign prices go up or down?

I do not see how a company like Digi can maintain sales levels when they do not have a new top of the line. This means that the top of the line has been around for 5 years or so. Most people already have it if they are going to. So to keep selling the same amount year after year is not realistic IMHO. There are really only so many people into audio. Most people do not care about what we do.

Just some thoughts.

Mike

As a whole I'm seeing smaller 'large scale' studios drop like flies. If that makes any sense.

Studios with large SSL's going out of business.......

Little guys like me barely holding on......

More little independant stuff popping up in houses everywhere.....

The gap between Pro and Consumer closing.... If I may be so bold as to point at that.... just to touch that one without details..... here's something more in depth: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=230542

Price going up on consumer grade digi...... hmmmm...... ouch

Funny cause Digi's consumer grade isn't the most functional consumer grade on the market.... still..... at $150, cheaper than the competition, until you factor in hardware.....

dang......

just another general rant

Just like the stock market, I've survived many ups and downs in the industry over the years (28 year industry pro). The best advice I can give, as well as what I do myself, is to "evolve or die". Meaning, continue to diversify you audio services. Do not limit yourself to what you've done in the past. Change your professional paradigm. Just my 2 cents.
