LCD/Plasma for post work... what to look for?
I'm going to be getting my feet wet with some documentary work in the next couple of months.
I've got hd3 and a dell 24 inch monitor, but would like to use another monitor for picture. I've got a nice space on the wall above mix position, and would like to utilize the Mojo and a wall mounted monitor ( also will do some family movie nights in there) I've heard there can be problems using plasma's, with the refresh, speed of the monitor when used for shuttling frame by frame, that could cause inaccuracies for post work??? Can some one suggest a flat screen, type TV that I can use for this application? something 40 inches or so. thanks! |

Re: LCD/Plasma for post work... what to look for?
I recently purchased a 26" Baumann Meyer LCD monitor. It has just about every input imaginable, however for the Mac / Fuse-X output I use the SVHS input. It can choose between 4:3 and 16:9 as well as other zoom functions. It has a delay of about 2 frames for the picture which I can easily compensate for within Pro Tools (QT offset). I must double check this with Sync Check. The picture quality is superb. I only wish that I did this a long time ago, especially since it has freed up so much space in my studio (instead of a CRT monitor). Above the Apple 23" display it looks killer.
Practically every LCD monitor TV will have these same specs, perhaps with varying picture delays. I'd recommend going for a decent brand though. Here in Australia there are some great deals on slightly older Sony Bravias at the moment. Have fun with your purchase! |
