Cleaning 001 i/o connectors
I’d like to clean the i/o’s on my 001 (and my Mackie mixer) as they are starting to crackle if I move the cables around or plug stuff in. I’m also getting channel drop-outs. Getting tired of crawling around behind my gear to wiggle around and reinsert the offending connector(s)
Crackle crackle... I know there are some sprays out there that supposedly work but I’m not to fond of the concept of spraying stuff into my gear. Is this safe? Other options? I tried cleaning the 1/4 inch cable connectors with rubbing alcohol. Works for a bit but after a while, ...crackle. dk

You're not fond of spraying compressed air into your gear?

Re: Cleaning 001 i/o connectors
Not air... "tuner cleaner" or the like.

Re: Cleaning 001 i/o connectors
I once asked a local instrument repair guy the same question and he said to buy "Cramolin R5" which a quick search on the web shows was replaced by Cramolin DeoxIT D5. I never did try it, but I've always meant to find some. Let me know how you make out because I have some similar problems with my 001.

Re: Cleaning 001 i/o connectors
I think the same thing as "Cramolin" is called CAIG DeoxIt D5 in some electronics stores--same as what dans said (I'm a "dans", too").
I also use this liquid stuff called "MG Chemicals Super Contact Cleaner" that I pour in this funny squeeze bottle with this long pointy nozzle that points downward. Perfect for "drip-down" refreshing of pots and switches when one is too lazy to take everything apart. Grod, I love the smell of this stuff...FRRHHHHHHH! ahhhhhhh.... ummm brain damage. Doh. dna

Re: Cleaning 001 i/o connectors
Thanks, I'll check it out. Gotta find an electronics store around here.
I'm a Dan too. It's the Dan club! dk

Re: Cleaning 001 i/o connectors
More likely what you're experiencing is the poor quality fo the wave soldering on the PC board of the 001. there have been many complaints about this with the 001, it's a very comon problem. The solution is to open the unit and resolder the connections to the i/o jacks on the PC board. Unless your 001 is kept outdoors, it is highly unlikey it has accumulated enough dirt to cause intermittant connections. You can try a very small squirt of Craig D-5, but I'll bet money you ahve broken/cold intermittant connections.
