Default 2009 Mac Pro GUI Issues?

Hey I just got myself a:

2009 MacPro 4,1 - Two x 2.93 GHz Quad Core 45-nm Xeon X5570
64 GB of RAM
1TB mSata Samsung SSD
The mSATA SSD is on a Addonics Quad mSATA PCIe SSD - http://www.addonics.com/products/ad4mspx2-a.php
12TB RAID 0 made with Two 6TB Seagate 7200RPM Drives

It seems to have a GUI lag in Pro Tools 12. I've tried the Quartz Debug trick but that hasn't really worked out perfectly either.

Pro Tools 10 seems to not have an issue compared to 12.4.

I've tried 2 different graphics cards:

NVidia GTX 770 2GB
http://www.macvidcards.com/store/p9/..._and_4_GB.html

and
Sapphire HD 7950
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sapphire/100352MAC/

The Sapphire has been a little better but still kind of glitchy.

I've tried running the sessions off of the Software 12TB RAID drives as well as the mSATA SSD.

I can still return this computer just FYI.

Thanks in advanced.

I recently found out that all of the 4,1 mac pros are not compatible with ProTools 12. This information came from a reply to a support case that I raised bfore Christmas, and I confirmed it with the compatibility PDF document. 4,1 is not on the list.

Do you mind sharing the PDF? Thanks for your help.

They may not support it that doesn't mean they don't work. The GUI issue effects lots of users across many macs, macbookpro, new Mac Pro, 2010 Mac or, iMac etc. it's an issue with PT12 and OS X El Cap. Quartz debug only helped with Yosemites graphic issues they changed it for El Cap. You can upgrade the 2009 4,1 to a 2010 5,1 with firmware update with Supported westmere Xeon 5600 series processors.
I did with mine. The graphics bug is not because you have a 2009.
Don't sell a perfectly good machine, you can upgrade it and have a very fast beast. As many of us here have. Hopefully Avid will get their shoit together with this annoying graphics bug.
10.11.2 is worse than 10.11.1 and is not supported by Avid yet.

Thanks for your help. I ordered another Mac Pro from Mac Sales:

Apple Mac Pro 2.93GHz 12-Core "2010-12" with 16GB DDR3, 1.0TB 7200RPM HDD, SuperDrive, Radeon 5770

I'm gonna try this one and then see which one works better and then return one or both depending on how they work.

I'll try the other GPU's I have as well as the 64GB of RAM and the 12TB Software RAID drives i have.

I should also add I am using Mavericks 10.9

I know my sig shows I am running a Windows machine but I also own a 2009 Mac Pro 4.1 two processor 2.93 (8cores) with a 5770 graphics card just like the first one you tried. I pulled my hair out trying all the things you did including the patch for the graphics card. After all that I found it was the Apple drivers causing the problem all along even with the patch installed. I purchased Mac OS 10.8.5 from Apple by calling their support folks and installed it from scratch and have not had a graphics problem since then. Version 10.8.5 is the only one you will be able to use without problems on this machine b

Interesting, so you're using 10.8.5 and Pro Tools 12?

If you're already upgrading, i strongly suggest upgrading your CPU's to 12 core. I can walk you through it if you are interested.
