can't get the midi to work!!!

I need some help here with my Digi 001 and the midi functions, i just sold my 001 to a friend of mine and he called me last night to tell me that he could not get the midi to work properly, all is wanting to do is getting midi to work with his midi controller keyboard, just from the controller to the midi ports of the digi 001, he has another unit digi 001 that he says works great but mine doesn't seem to work at all, nothing no response what so ever, i personally have never used midi form the 001 when i had it, so all this came to a surprise to me, like i said even the simpliest set up doesn't work... Can the midi of the digi 001 be bad, can it come from the ports or the PCI card, any suggestions guys or does anyone have had the same problem before, my unit was purchased back in 2001... Well. first off, is your friend running both of these units on 1 PC?

It possible when he installed this 001 on his PC, that he didnt set it up right.

If he has one unit using the 001, and it works fine, then he should plug your breakout box up to where his is plugged in, and the settings from his 001 should translate over to your breakout box just fine, and that would be the best way to test it.
