Pro Tools shuts down my computer
I've been having this issue occasionally and I have no idea why. I can't link it to a specific action in Pro Tools, but every now and again in the middle of working on a track my computer will just instantly shut off and restart again after a couple seconds. I'm using a digi 002 rack with the latest Pro Tools release for Windows 7 64 bit. Any ideas what's happening? I know it's not my processor overheating, as I have been monitoring it's temperature and it never rises above normal levels.

Re: Pro Tools shuts down my computer
Hard to say - when did it start happenning? As soon as you started using Windows 7-64? Is it just one session or any session? Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling LE? You might try reseating any cards and/or your memory as well as your firewire cable. Beyond that a SANDRA report will be needed.

Re: Pro Tools shuts down my computer
It actually started happening on the Windows 7 release candidate, but the problem has gone away on that OS, but it has been happening since shortly after I started using 64 bit windows 7. Actually now that I think about it, it tends to happen on mixing sessions when I import stems to a blank session. It doesn't happen right away, but typically at some point during those sessions Pro Tools will shut down my computer once or twice, and then it doesn't happen again in that session.

Re: Pro Tools shuts down my computer
We need a Sandra report and what version of PT you are running. THis kind of behavior often is fixed by updating Pace Interlok drivers.

Re: Pro Tools shuts down my computer
Does this only happen with pro tools? Could be a driver or memory issue....

This is from my windows 7 release candidate OS, but it's the same computer as the Windows 7 64 bit OS. Also, I just recently encountered the problem again on my release candidate OS.

Re: Pro Tools shuts down my computer
so, any ideas? this problem isn't going away on its own. I haven't been able to isolate it to any particular plug ins either.

Re: Pro Tools shuts down my computer
I saw improvment with a Texas Instrument firewire controller. The VIA controllers have been, at times, less than ideal.

Re: Pro Tools shuts down my computer
Could be a lot of different things, a few suggestions for system stability tests if you have not done these already.
1. Set any BIOS overclock settings back to the defaults. 2. Get the Prime 95 and Realtemp apps and run the stress test while you watch the temps for at least an hour. 3. Run the windows 7 memory diag and when the sys restarts set the test to advanced and loop forever, let it run for a couple hours. None of this has anything to do with PT, but PT works a system very hard compared to most Apps so it could just be a system issue. |

Re: Pro Tools shuts down my computer
Tom, is there any way that my firewire card could be causing my computer to shut down? I haven't had any other real issues arise with this computer. dave, I've never overclocked anything, and I've been running the Prime 95 for a couple hours and the temperature has been sitting steadily around 79, and the computer hasn't shut down yet. It really seems to only be a Pro Tools issue.
I ran the memory diagnostic as well and came up with nothing. |
