Re: Mbox 3 Mini Static problem
Hi! i've been stucked with this problem some time, but after some reading i found the solution (at least it worked for me)
You just have to clean the pot so... Follow these steps: 1. pull out all the knobs in the front 2. Take away the rubber stands on the bottom and unscrew the four screws (this screws only are enough to pull out the board) 3. pull out the board 4.you will see the volume pot connected to the board with a plug 5. pull out carefully that plug with a plastic stick (try not touching the electronic board) 6. prepare a small glass filled with alcohol (normal ethilic alcohol worked for me) but it can be a low residue lefting cleaner like liquid for sunglasses or optics. 7. insert the pot in the alcohol and turn the pot up and down several times (rotate it) 8. Wait for the pot to get dry 9. Go back in steps until you have a fully armed mbox 10. enjoy a life without unwanted noise my english is not my first language so sorry for the mistakes and strange quote formations. I hope this works for everyone, as said it worked for me. And above everything, be very careful with the electronics and if you don't feel capable of doing it, ask for help to a techie-handy man. Re: Mbox 3 Mini Static problem
Well I tried a simplification of the previous suggestion and it worked great. I had both the mbox3 mini and the mbox3 both with the crackling noise problem.
I just put it upwards, pull out the rotary knob and drop some alcohol turn around the knob several times and repeat the procedure around 4-5 times. I dry the alcohol with a hair dryer. Not a very elegant solution but for the time being the noise is gone. |

Re: Mbox 3 Mini Static problem
Hi Guys,
I was with the same problem, annoying as hell. I just pulled off the plastic volume control, and used a deoxit into it, then rolled it left and right few times. Bam, it is working again. =) |

Re: Mbox 3 Mini Static problem
I ended up with an MBox 3 with super crackly speakers when turning the volume knob to the point where the left speaker could even cut out entirely if I left it at the wrong position.
Pulled the knob off and put a couple of drops of methylated spirits into the pot and turned it around a bit as described in this thread. 100% fixed, no crackling at all now. Anyone with this problem, don't be afraid. It's a five minute easy fix. |

Re: Mbox 3 Mini Static problem
SOLVED on my Windows 10 machine by upping the bitrate in Mbox Control to 48000 or 96000 and then adjusting the Windows / Sound / Playback Device to 16bit or 32bit (it was at 24bit default).

Re: Mbox 3 Mini Static problem
Yep, I have the problem with my Mbox 3rd gen. Bad dirty pot on one side. Horrible. Not happy with Avid these days.
