Suggestion - a Session Details text
I had to get rid of my old M Audio Fast Track Pro in wake of the Windows 10 and Pro Tools 12 software. I got the Focusrite Scarlett i2i.
I had one main issue is that you can't launch PT and expect to switch between different sessions with different sample rates without manually changing the Scarlett on its control panel. For example, with the Fast Track Pro, you could have the interface set at 48kHz and still open a 44.1kHz session. But you need to know what sample rate the project/session is at before you open it so you can appropriately configure the Scarlett i2i before hand. I have many different sample rates on older recording sessions and I have no clue what the rates are. If you try to open one and they don't match up, you risk the session freezing and having to restart the computer and configure a different rate, and launch PT again and hope you picked the right rate this time. I'd like to see in the Session folder a Session breakdown text including details about the set up, like the rate. That way you could consider a session, open the folder, open the "Session Details text," and then read what the sample rate is. That way you could configure the device before even launching PT. Just a thought. doug

Re: Suggestion - a Session Details text
I don't know if Avid is going to modify their coding to do what you are suggesting (I doubt it), but you could add a Wordpad document to each session folder and document whatever details you want (sample rate, artist, status of session, etc.) Depending on how many sessions you have already and the variety of sample rates you used over time, it may take you a while, but would probably be a good investment of your time.

Re: Suggestion - a Session Details text
You can already get this information in a text file, but it's something you have to do.
Go to File>Export>Session Info as Text You will get something like this session as text.jpg

Re: Suggestion - a Session Details text
You can use the import session data function to just view other session's details including sample rate.

Re: Suggestion - a Session Details text
Some third party interfaces will follow the PT session sample rate - RME comes to mind - others will not. I don't know of any third party interfaces that will follow a buffer size change within Pro Tools. The only interfaces that completely integrate with PT, AFAIK, are Avid's.

Re: Suggestion - a Session Details text
Quote:
1. Get VLC media player, which an is a cool free PC/Mac app, by the way. 2. Pro Tools session folder ---> Audio Files 3. Right click on an audio file ---> open with ---> VLC (You can use Quicktime, but I prefer VLC.) 4. Tools ---> Codec Information. Viola. 5. Go through each session folder, & determine sample rate. Make Notepad docs called "44.1k" "48K" "96k" etc and copy the Notepad into your Pro Tools session folder. You could probably get the whole task finished in short order. Hope this helps!!!
