Default Windows Update Vs Apples Software Update

I have both systems Mac and XP, No real bias, I like things about both...

I have run Windows Update religiously since 2005 with no PT hassles, Why is it Apples "Software Update" seems to "break" PT so much?

Is this a UNIX thing or a PT weakness?

It just always seemed odd since UNIX is supposedly so robust.

Thought it might make for a interesting thread

I've actually never had a problem with software update. I've used since the beginning through all the OS updates until 10.4.9 and 10.4.10. It's not that I've found a problem with it now either, I just haven't tried using it (out of fear). I went ahead and downloaded 10.4.9 combo assuming it would cause a problem, but never personally had one with software update.

I can't say as I have had any problems per say either but if you read the forum obviously a lot of people have. Or how a how seemingly insignifican a QT or Itunes update can cause problems. I just though it was interesting point and was wondering if it was the nature OSX's Unix underpinnings or or PT's legacy coding.
