Default Best Hookup

I have an 003 console and have some new gear I would like to hook up.
I have two Avalon 737B preamp/com/eq. Two Universal audioTwin Finities going into two DBX 160x compressors. Daking Mic Pre IV going into DBX 166 compressors

I already have a Motu 828 bringing in 8 additional channels for drums which I do not use very much as I work on Acoustic stuff almost all the time

Should I run the higher end stuff using the line in 5-8 and the daking 1-5

I was told that if I use the 1-4 preamp channels That even if they are turned all the way down you are not truly bypassing them.

I guess I am asking if you have a preamp that is much better than the 003's how should I bring them in. Are there other options?

Thanks

Your options are inputs 5-8 or convert to ADAT or SPDIF for extra IO

Is there a way I can use better converters?

If so would I have to unhook my Motu using the optical connection or can I use the spdif

You can use ADAT and SPDIF inputs at the same time.. Is this what you are asking?

4 ch with Digi 003 pres, digi converters
4 ch line inputs, digi converters
8 ch via ADAT, your converters
2 ch via spdif, your converters

18 inputs total..

Thanks Flommer
You answered my question well

Now I am wondering two things
If I have a preamp plugged into 1-4, If I have the preamp knob on the 003 turned all the way down am I bypassing the preamp and using the higher quality outboard preamp.

If I want to use the higher quality outboard preamps is there a way using
apogee converters
