Default help needed getting Mbox to work

I have 6.2.3 pro tools and panther 10.3.3. No sound whatsoever from my mics. I don't really understand how a company can put out a product like the Mbox and offer such a worthless instruction manual. If I hit the record button, after I get a new track established(I think that is correct to getting started) I get a little box telling me I do not have the mbox connected via usb and then Protools proceeds to crash everytime. In system preferences under "sound" I get the inputs for the m-box both on input and output, but everytime I try and use protools it comes back with errors messages about the usb not being connected. The mbox looks so cool, too bad it doesn't work as cool. I would love any help at this point because I am lost as I can get with this thing. I totally new to protools so take that into consideration. Thanks Jody

Well...before anyone can help, you will need to provide more info. What are your systems specs. What kind of mics, external hard drive? Other USB devices? etc.

Also, the Reference manual is under the Pro Tools menu within Pro Tools.

iMac is a flat screen 800mhz with 512 ram with 160 Gb external firewire(but not on). No other usb stuff, just the Mbox and the keyboard. I don't know the name of the mic's, they are hand built custom made from my friends studio. I can't get Garageband audio/midi preferences to see the Mbox either. But the system preferences has it listed as an input and output. thanks for the help.
