Default q: about Disk Warrior

this little app just saved my @$$ by repairing a bad partition on an external FW drive, and I do plan on purchasing a copy of my own (I had a friend help me for this case), but I'm curious, exactly how many utilities are bundled with DW?

I ask because from the app itself, all I saw was "which disk do you wish to repair?", select the disc, and more often then not, replace it with the new healthy version. So, in DW terms, does 'repair' mean the same a 'defrag'? I'm thrilled that I got it to work, but is that pretty much what DW does, repair damaged discs more than anything else?

The part of DW that you used does not defrag the disk- it fixes disk directory issues, but does not defrag the actual data.

However, there is another utility on the DW disk (can't remember the name now) that does defrag, and most say it too is better than Norton.

I just had a friend save his system drive using DW. Apparently he was importing some music to iTunes when sherlock's indexing came on and it killed his drive. He couldn't reboot w/o bomb errors. DW fixed it though.

If you buy DW version 2.1 it comes bundled with Plus Optimizer, Alsot's defrag utility. The new OS X version of DW , 3.0, does not come with Plus Optimizer.

DW 2.1 and PO 1.3 will repair and defrag OS X volumes safely, though I believe it's going to be hard to find the older versions now the new version is out.

DO NOT TRUST NORTON!!! I believe it was mainly written for PeeCee's, and I came close to Total disaster with it, on my Mac...

I got the DW 2.1 and they upgraded me to 3.0 at DW(alsoft.com), and sent me the CD.

I think there is a de-fraging with the DW app, because there is a graph that shows you the drive, and it looked the same afer running 3.0 from the CD on my OS X, and then running 2.1 plusOptimizer on OS X, from my OS 9 drive...I am Not sure, but it looked like DW optimized(de-fraged) while running the 3.0.

Do not wait, get it Now, for best performance for your rig...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The same way I don't understand when people post "my PT 6.0 doesn't work in OS 9, WHY?", or "what is all this REASON fuss?". Yeah, I had the general idea of what DW does, but had never seen it in action, and I didn't have much time to do research between last night and work this morning, which is when I asked this. All is good, thanks for the link, a good read.

pk_hat:

I strongly suggest waiting for the NEXT release of DW.

Check out what has been said about it @ the Gurus.
