Default HDX w/Magma 3T fan setting

Any idea what the appropriate fan speed setting should be if just one HDX card is installed in the Magma ExpressBox 3T? (F 1 2 3 4)
Does an HDX card need cooling?

For low power or self-cooled cards you can adjust the fan speed/noise by moving the jumper found under the removable cooling fan at the front of the unit. If your cards tend to get hot, you can increase the fan speed for improved cooling. The Factory Default is setting 2 (medium). The slowest speed is setting 4 and the fastest speed is setting F

Here's a video tutorial on how to change or adjust the fan setting

Thank you -
Is the HDX card low power or self-cooled? If so, can I remove the fan altogether to reduce noise?

If I am not mistaken there's a built-in fan on the HDX cards, which act as self-coolling. But you may need ask Digidesign how hot this HDX cards can get. Because removing the fan to reduce noise may not be suitable as it can overheat the HDX cards.....

Are these boxes shipping now? This is the Thunderbolt expander, right?

Check with Magma. What I heard is that this Expansion Thunderbolt is shipping now.

They may be shipping (the Sonnet one is as well), but the problem, from what I understand, is that it won't work with a Mac without a specific Thunderbolt driver for the specific PCIe card (HDX, HD Native, or TDM). Avid has to make this available, and from what I've heard, they can't do it until Apple gives the approval.

I've posted for Avid to comment on this, and so far they haven't. I have no idea when the driver will be available. So I wouldn't rush out and buy these yet.

My educated guess is that the chassis will work since PT 10.1.1 or 10.2. The driver/software for the Thunderbolt chassis is obviously part of the PT installers, otherwise there were no users running the chassis (pre-production units maybe) already. And no one said she/he needed to install separate software for the chassis.

Magma Thunderbolt 3T requires no driver, software and firmware.

In order for a certain PCIe card to work in Thunderbolt Expansion chassis you would need a Thunderbolt Compatible driver, which is provided by the manufacturer or developer of PCIe card.

There are manufacturers or developers of PCIe cards that bundle their Software and Driver altogether. This means upon installation of Software you are also installing the driver.

Checkout this Articles posted on http://expansionsystem.com

NOTE:For MacOS, a driver modification is required from the PCIe card vendor to allow cards to work through Thunderbolt in ExpressBox 3T. You should check with the maker of your PCIe card to get a Thunderbolt Compatible Driver.

Then let me re-phrase this: The compatibility for the Thunderbolt chassis is obviously being enabled/installed with the PT installers.

Lets not get too picky!
