what mic pre are used with the new Control24

I'm on the market for a controller and mic pre for PT. I heard different rumours about the quality of the mic pre on the new Control 24 ( most people says that they used the cheaper platinum Focusrite ).
digi can you for sure confirm this or tell us what Focusrite pre's are actually built in these new control surface ??? Thanks

It's the platinum series mic pre (a guy at Digi told me)... but believe me, they aren't as cheap sounding as their $ competitors. They sound very good for their price, and they're "class A". I've been surprised.

Personally, I'd rather have 8 Red pres in a control 24 than 16 platinums... not to say what we've got is gonna suck in any way.

A digi guy at NAMM told me that they were Reds... hmmm. I wonder.

Today, a Digi guy at the show told me they were "new" preamps, and were "in-between" the platinum series and the red series in quality.

Are we thoroughly confused now?

I was always told the only difference between the Red & Platinum was that the Platinum were made by machine and the Red were made by hand, but all the components were the same.

Talked to the Focusrite rep at NAMM and he told me that they are indeed Platinum series pres. The difference being, Platinums are tranformerless and the Reds have transformers (in the Rupert Neve tradition for high end pres).

Go for ProControl and you'll have the choice of selecting the pres you like, and you will have expandability. Think about the future.

Camilo, you can still use whatever preamps you want. It's just an added feature to the whole package.
