urgent backup issue

I have piles of old ADAT tapes @ 16bit/48k that have very important tracks and need to be backed up. I would like to get them into a (aiff or sdII) file on a computer so our IT department can run DLTs or dvd-ram/rom for me.

What's the absolute best hardware / software solution for running these backups? Theoretically an ADAT interface to an auxillary ProTools system could sit there and do it - is there a cheaper / better way?

You can try MOTU 2408 - for playing tracks it's less expensive and has 3 ADAT potrs, not 2 like ADAT Bridge.

You could do it with the Digi 001 and Pro Tools LE. It's got an Adat light pipe input and output on the PCI card. If I'm not mistaken it's cheaper than the Adat Bridge option and the 2408 option.

If I get the 001 system, I know it is upgradable to PT24 later, but what about that interface - could be very handy as a simple interface to a full-blown PT system.. Is that possible?
