Default Re: Playlist Layout A Bit Random?

Playlist view is useless for comping anything that uses multiple tracks. Best to stick to comping the old-fashioned way.

I'm not even really talking about comping.

If we go CUE001 and go for a loop rec.

Then create a new playlist for more loops etc. . .all the takes will be jumbled up, meaning if the dial editor recorded good takes - he doesn't just end up opening all the playlists with Take 1 being top and Take 25 being bottom. All the takes are mangled. Even the .02 at the end won't mean anything as it'll only be .02 of random loops.

So, what I've noticed in my experience:

You can reorder the playlist (bit not from the track list, stupidly) and correct the problem before continuing on by dragging the lanes around. If you do this, try to have the last playlist available as your active one.

Keep the lanes closed at all times while recording.

Make sure you're on the last playlist when you add a new one.

If you open the playlists, switch the active one out, and close them, you're asking for trouble.

Relative to how much I do with Pro Tools, I use playlists a lot, and this is just how it is. Ideally you could view all lanes from the tracklist, and reorder them there, where it would be super easy, but alas, the entire functionality is a bit wanting. Can't add multiple new playlists at once, can't cycle through them without using the pop-up menu, and also why are they called "playlists"? That has got to be just the worst name for this. But they're too useful to not use.
