Mine had the same issue recently and I put it in for service, the word is that it may have been fried by a power surge (i didnt have a surge protector). I'm waiting to see whether its worth the cost to repair now.

All my gears going through a surge protector. Well the eleven, powered monitors and computer. I'd be very surprised if It was caused by a surge!

Yes, there seems to be more people with this issue, me included, than Avid would like to admit.

I am so pissed about this, I know I can buy a used on for 300.00, but I shouldn't have to buy another one!

I feel your pain. From clock issues to boot issues I'm on my 4th unit, although I have only paid for 2. Unfortunately we now live in a throw away society.

It sucks big time but that's reality. I'm just amazed there has been no communication from the manufacturer about what the underlying issue is. I remember it took quite some time for an admission on the clocking issue and I expect the same with this latest issue.

I'm just wondering if you have statutory warranty in the US. Basically if you pay a certain amount for something it should be expected to last for a certain period of time - fault free. I know that's the case here in australia.

Today I wish I lived in Australia, well any day I feel that way, but sadly, no such law here that I know of.

Still pissed at a Avid over this though!

She lives a sheltered life not leaving the office so not misuse! Actually doesn't get used as much as it should!

I'm in Australia and got the unit via avid Australia/new Zealand because of multiple replacement units of another product so there is no retailer to contact for a replacement/fix.

After looking around here it seems quite a common issue. I'm not having much luck with avid and m-audio products it seems! Update: after looking at similar issues hear reminded me about the tuner not being recognised sometimes and stuck on one note.

Maybe I have one of the old dodgy batch

Any ideas for my next step?

Cheers, chris

Technical workshops in Melbourne is the only place you can get a repair. They are an Avid preferred repairer or what ever the technical name for that is. I had 2 units repaired by them under warranty, but the latest no boot issue was going to cost more for postage, quote, repair, return postage, than to get another brand new unit from the US. If you live in Victoria or on the eastern sea board you may find it cheaper than I did living in WA.

Hey Brad
Did they tell you what is causing the "no boot" situation.?
can you find out?
Obviously if it can repaired then they know the cause.
It would be enlightening to know.

No. Back when mine went kaput they hadn't heard about it happening. They did suggest the DSP chip but obviously without sending in my unit, and to be fair to the tech, he was just guessing. To be honest, if someone, somewhere in oz sent there's in for repair, avid would know what the fault was. Whether or not they communicate the issue to is consumers is completely up to them.
