Default Odd Issue with Blue Cat Patchwork

Since I upgraded to PT 12.4, I've run into a rather odd issue with Blue Cat Audio's Patchwork, so I thought I'd mention it here. I have a couple of VI's I like to use, but only come in VST format. Both are 64bit and I often host them in PW with no problem...until 12.4 that is. What happens now is that I get everything set up as normal, and record the MIDI part I want for the VI in PW. But, then, if I do anything else in PT before playing back...anything at all, nothing plays on the track with PW. The fix is I can quickly bypass it, and then unbypass it, and then it plays just fine...until I do something else again, and the problem repeats.

At first I thought it was just a problem with a particular VI, but it seems to happen with other VIs I instantiate with PW, so I'm thinking there's something not quite right PW and 12.4 Of course track freeze makes that issue go away. But if I'm not done tweaking the sound, or want to experiment, I have to keep bypassing/unbypassing.

Anyone else have an issue like this? Never happened until 12.4.

Here's a thought - has Patchwork somehow reverted to demo mode?

Try downloading the demo version of MB7-2 which can also host vi's and see how that works. If everything is okay then it's Patchwork that has the issue.

Hi,

Can you make sure you are using the Virtual Instrument version of the plug-in ("PatchWork Synth")? It sounds like you are using the effect version and Pro Tools' Dynamic plug-in processing is triggered here (it will stop processing plug-ins when silence is detected).

I'm almost embarrassed to say this, but I never noticed there was a "synth" version of PW before. How did I miss that!!!??!! Anyhow, I switched it to that and the problem seems to have gone away. Thanks.

Yep. IIRC the synth version was done second because quite a number of people were using the original version and started to have issues so BCA did the synth version.

I've said it before and will say it again - I love Blue Cat software

So this is odd. After switching to the synth version yesterday, and everything seemingly working fine, I opened the session this morning and the VI on that track wasn't playing. Even though I had saved the session last night with all the changes, for some reason the instrument track had grayed out the BlueCat slot. I had to go back in and the re-click on the Blue Cat Midi Ch 1 to re-activate it on the instrument track. Not sure why it would have switched off.

There is a synth version but you need to have it on an aux or instrument track as I understand it. Not used the instrument version yet.
