Default Could not complete your request because Assertion in

Hello,


Just updated to 2018.7 and can not get pro tools to open past the splash screen. When I hold "n" while opening it just crashes where it normally gives you the option to select the audio device. I actually did have it offer the option once, but once I selected my interface, it just threw up the error again.



I'm running windows 10, Antelope Orion Studio.


I've trashed everything using the trasher app. I've uninstalled and reinstalled pro tools multiple times. I've uninstalled and re installed the antelope driver. I've disabled all audio devices in play back and record in windows. I've tried different session with all plugins disabled. I've used ccleaner to clean up registry.



I've followed the Avid Knowledge Base that discusses this exact error. I've searched and followed multiple threads on DUC where this is discussed. Only one user had a fix, which did not work for me.



I'd rather not have to re install windows, but if thats what it takes.



Hoping someone has a fix.

I also use the Orion studio with win10.
I use PT 12.7.1, and my problem was not the same,
but I had to make sure the internal sound card was handling all of the windows sounds.
I tried to deactivate the internal sound card first, but that made Orion conflict with windows and PT.....

I usually just reinstall after assertion error, likely something has gone wrong there

You left off the actual useful part of the assert error message... assert in exactly what file/line number? Googling for that detail will often find you a solution... have you been doing that or just looking at stuff for random “assertion errors’?

I ended up wiping the hard drive and re installing windows.



Darryl, you are correct. The full error was -



Could not complete your request because Assertion in "E:\Code\######\ProTools\AAE\Source\AAX\CFicAAXWid get.cpp", line 822


Which google then brings you right to Avid.com, who says this is an error when the playback engine is not configured correctly.


The kicker was that Pro Tools would crash right before it let me change to the orion as the hardware. Multiple re installs did not help.


Again, thank you all and I'm back up and running.

Glad you got going.

That particular assert seems to have a grab-bag of causes.

When you held down the N key on Pro Tools start-up would Pro Tools crash before it showed you the Playback Engine dialog?

Yes,


Pro Tools would launch, scan plugins, and right before it should show the playback engine dialogue, would crash to desktop.
