Default New Machine - unable to play - Not enough DSP?

Hi,

I'm just setting up my new Mac Pro 2019. Fresh install of Catalina 15.5, Protools 2020.5 HD Driver 2020.5 - two HDX Cards.

Cannot play anything - Just get …"Not enough DSP for the mixer" anytime I try to play, solo or change /in/output. Digitest runs fine.

what's wrong??

EDIT: Protools also crashed when closing sessions.

There is a good thread for 7.1 issues, maybe you will find your answer there?

Okay then, so back to basic troubleshooting.

Remove one of the cards and find a slot where you can get HDX1 working as it should. Then replace it with another card and see if the second card functions as expected. Then install second card to adjacent slot and try again.

Hi,

I can only use one HDX Card at the moment - the other one is not avaliable at the moment.

I tried the remaining one in slot 5 and 6 - makes no difference.
The card used to work without a problem yesterday in my TB-Sonnet chassis connected to my old mac pro 2013.

Alright then, you need to contact Avid Support with your issue. Next PT version is likely around the corner so that may (or may not) fix it.

Did you use a HDX2 setup in the Sonnet chassis or was it also HDX1?

I used a HDX 2.

interestingly it now works!

I put one HDX card in the old Sonnet chassis - connected that to the new mac pro and started protools - card worked.

I then put the card back into an pci slot of the mac pro - and suddenly it worked to.

before that I had the card in all possible slots in the new mac pro and it never worked. Could It be that some kind of firmware update happened to the card when it was recognized while in the TB-Chassis?

Possibly, if you opened latest PT with the card powered on. But unlikely, as there are more trouble reported regarding updating firmware on chassis. Glad to hear you got it working anyway
