HDX and 3rd Party Firewire Audio Interfaces
I've done some research on this, but only to get mixed answers both from Avid & Users.
Can one use a HDX card to run Pro Tools & AAX-DSP Pugins but use another 3rd Party Audio Interface NOTE: The 3rd Party AI is to be connected via Firewire to the computer, not to the HDX card. Can't seem to find a solid answer. |

Re: HDX and 3rd Party Firewire Audio Interfaces
What is this "3rd party" device. You must use some sort of HD-connected interface to use the HDX card(and its processing power), but many interfaces can connect to an HD interface with a digital connection. But if you are trying to use HDX, without an HD IO, that will not work(but on a tight budget, a used 96IO or 192IO will accept a lightpipe stream from lots of affordable boxes). Be more specific about your needs and what you have, and you will get the best advice on how to proceed

He was specifically asking about using a firewire interface. He may be aware of the third party options that hook up to the HDX cards.

Re: HDX and 3rd Party Firewire Audio Interfaces
HD, HD|Accel, HD|Native, and HDX always require HD interface connected, no exceptions.

Re: HDX and 3rd Party Firewire Audio Interfaces
Thanks for the replies, I haven't decided on the Firewire Interface as yet. But none the less, a HD interface is required.
Is there an alternative to the HD I/O that anyone can recommend? |

Yes. Lynx Aurora and Apogee Symphony IO. There's a couple others like Prism and Mytek, but I don't keep up with what's current with them.
