Using a Mac Pro 4,1 with PT 2019?
I have a client with a Mac Pro 4,1 (early 2009, Intel Quad-Core Xeon) who wants to upgrade to Pro Tools 2019. But, at least officially, PT19 is qualified to run on MPs 5,1 and above.
I have seen info online that there is a firmware upgrade for 4,1 that allows it to run as a 5,1. Has anyone tried this with Pro Tools 2019? Or can I run it on a 4,1 without the upgrade, though Avid doesn't officially support it? Thanks! |

*Loads* of people are running 2019.6 on 4,1 cheesegraters flashed to 5,1 without issue - It's a simple process. You can also upgrade the processors to dual hex core.

... except upgrading single quad-core to dual hex-core requires changing the motherboard, but in any case, after firmware update the old board accepts newer and faster processor.

I did it also. Love it. Easy to do.

Re: Using a Mac Pro 4,1 with PT 2019?
Same here. 2009 8 core upgraded to 12 core. Huge cost saver with a ton of horsepower. It's running 2019.6 (HD Native) well though I feel that we're entering the threshold for what these "cheese grater" updates are able to keep up with. It might "run" but I'd agree with the other suggestions of upgrading the CPU to a 6 core. Well worth every penny I spent on mine.
