Default Boom

Does anyone use Boom?

it is among the least used of my virtual instruments. I have no idea why Avid chose to include it rather than a program that sounds like a real drummer.

Am I missing something?

It a shame they never included a StrikeLE or StrikeFree. I've never really used Boom either. However Boom is better than nothing. Which is what we used to have.

Some people seem to get great sounds out of Boom. So it can be done.

I guess, but not for natural sounding drums. I would have liked some version of Strike instead.

There are some OK drums in Xpand2 if you play with the smart knobs, there's Drum Core (free is OK, no time out, one nice acoustic set), and I really liked Addictive Drums enough to buy it.

It's a simple, capable step/pattern sequencer with electronic drum sounds. They included it because people use it.

Asking why this was included over an acoustic version is like wondering why EP instruments exist, when there are "real" piano VI's. One is not a replacement for the other.

For what it is, Boom is a VERY nice drum VI. It was never meant to be sampler for live drum sounds. But in certain music contexts (ie Trance, Dance, Club Mixes, Drum n Bass, Dub-Step, electronica, etc...it does VERY well, I think. I use it a lot, even if I only want to pull 1 or 2 parts of a larger rhythm mix, ie a kick and tom, say. I find it easy to use, and quite nice to have in the arsenal.

For someone starting out with little or nothing, and they get PT, the 5 out of the box VI's - Boom, Xpand, Structure Free, Mini Grand and the organ are a great start. Just my opinion, though!

I'll have to agree. BOOM is actually very nice for what it is. Its great for any electronic music.

I never REALLY used it before, then just recently I thought I would actually use it for a little electronic track instead of Tremor, Geist, or Reason 7. I was pretty impressed with the sounds, its easy to program and does what it was meant to do.

I do agree with sunburst as well, It would be nice for Avid to include a normal drum VI as well. Maybe something like a lite version of Strike, or do what they use to do and include a lite version of BFD. I don't know if FXpansion even supports that anymore, but they do have BFD Eco which could be included fairly cheap being that it regularly sells at retail for under $50. There is also Slate Drums Essentials that usually retails for ~$30

Thanks!

I'll experiment with BOOM when I want some more electronic type drums.

Right now I'm happy with Addictive Drummer.

We did have Xpand befor boom. Imo xpand is more usefull and has better sounding drums.

"Xpand"
Use the presets-menu for built-kits or the parts to build your own.
In 11 for boom and Xpand, solo or midi note isolate then bounce offline for track separation (Kick, Snr etc...)

Boom sounds (under) with acoustic can add some nice flavor and depth
