Default OS9 Dual G4 1.25 Digi001

ALL,

I'm running a digi001 on a mac g4 Dual 1.25GHz Protools 6.4cs9 and have been having a crash problem which I thought was resolved, but the problem has just not gone away. After opening several sessions( let's say the third session), protools opens,, loads all the tracks, aux etc then when the session is fully open, *bang* and the system gives me "protools has unexpectedly crashed" error I have reformatted the drive twice.

I was thinking of formatting and going back to OS9.2.2 and Protools 5.2.1 which ran VERY strong and stable, hell, imoo legacy versions run better than current protools 8,9 etc AND very fast without all the [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep] running behind it. I have a G5 Dual 2.0 w 8 GB of ram w mbox and it cannot keep up !.

I have a OS9.2.2 disk which I had ordered from apple years ago but somehow I cannot get it to install on my G4 Dual 1.25, before I purchased the Dual G4 I ran protools 5.2.1 on a single 1.0GHz G4 mac.

The install does not see my local hard drive for some reason no matter what I do. I am thinking if its the drive itself which OS9.2.2 does not recognize (its an internal IDE). not sure

Thought ?.

mdd G4's need a special version of Os9 called OS9 general. You need the original OSX install disks that shipped with the G4, Os9 general was never sold as a retail version, it was only ever included on mdd G4 factory install disks.

One more thing I wanted to also add to this thread for anyone who finds it later on down the road that the mdd G4's with a FW800 port can NOT boot OS9, OS9 general is needed for booting OS9 in FW400 mdd G4's, but will not work with FW800 models.

Thanks for the CD and fast delivery , I followed the instructions however, I could not get OS9 to boot, I copied the .dmg file onto a formatted MacOS extended clean partition on my Hard Drive.

Then I went into the system properties under OSX where OS9 did not show up as a bootable volume. I then "unpacked" the .dmg file onto the same Mac OS partition and was able to choose OS9 under system properties however, when the system rebooted, I get a picture which appears to be a floppy disk instead of the small Mac icon.

I did not have allot of time today to troubleshoot the problem but I will try again tonight.

Thanks

Try Unpacking the .dmg, then select all and drag all files and folders to the disk you want to boot from.

If for some reason that doesn't work, you can also use disk utility. Select the disk image in disk utility, then restore it to the drive you want to use as an os9 boot drive.

Sorry, haven't done this in a long time so I don't remember the exact process... I didn't have a ppc machine here to try it on.

Finally got it to work !!!!, I unpacked the image and copied the folders over to a freshly formatted mac os extended partition. Then I downloaded os 9.2.2 update from apple. Clicked on the 9.2.2 update install and the update "fixed" everything that was missing.

Now I have a dual boot system. OS9 still rocks in 2011 !!

Well played good sir, though I wouldn't give up on 6.4.1cs4 if you want to be running it.

My OS10.3.9 w/ 6.4.1cs4 setups are ROCK SOLID all the way up to my 64 Channel rig. (Mainly thanx to Hobo JohnToolbox's teachings some years ago)
Even major label clients love it. (mainly used for live recording)

Something seems fishy. You shouldn't be having any crashes.
