No one I spoke with today has any knowledge of the S3L being discontinued.

Avid does not need to discontinue S3L, it dies by itself just fine.

The only way to reanimate the product would be to pump input channel count, bump bus count, unlock DSP and drop the pricing. Also it should be made possible to use AVB channels or channel pairs as AVB "hardware" inserts for Waves implementation to finally happen.

I hate to see us (S3L users) being the only engineers not being able to run Waves! Competitors are putting out such great products with fantastic features and with wide range of options for very affordable prices, Avid please check the reality and if you, as a company, do not care about live sound market anymore then please sell off the division, I'm sure there must be someone out there interested in making Digidesign great again.

Another friendly advice, in case you still would like to go on developing live sound products, please have a look at lights desk manufacturers products, they have been into creating digital control surfaces for way longer than any sound company, there are nice solutions already created by these companies that could be adapted into live sound boards very well, like this function - motorized monitor wing! We don't actually need to have these ridiculously large flight cases for live consoles

Default S3L - The early death of a sweet console and what could follow?

I think that S3L-X is still totally viable. I agree that development have stopped and some features are missing but it is still an amazing small nice portable package . S3 is still fully active as a PT controler too. Nothing is saying that stage 16 won't become an option for S6L I/O as well. I get that we are not use to see Avid stop developing a product after a relatively short lifetime but when I look at other products out there, their development spam seems to be quite small too ... and manufactures move to the next project

I think what they need is an SC48 that works with the new software. A middle of the road console that is not to expensive like the S6L and one that is more practical than the S3L

Sure, they need to complete the line with an S4L and an S5L what will probably happen when the SC48 and the Profile get to the age they need to be replaced.

But that doesn't help me as S3L user and owner. I want the small form factor, I want it's flexibility, but I also want a modern console with the features others have.
I think it's a shame that I am looking at a Mackie console ( DL32 with DC16 surface) to replace the S3L just because it has a similar size and it has a working remote system based on the iPad.
Sometimes being Avid is just not enough

It's just terrible the amount of money spend on this system (20k for me) for the S3L to have such a lack of features and processing power.

Don't get me wrong, I like the system as it is, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.
But the sheer ignorance and/or lack of marketing and interest from avid is what ruins the deal for me.

The worst was the part with the Plugins before Christmas, they gave out a free bundle of Plugins for S6L users, that are not even expensive, so it's not about the money in general. But instead of saying "hey S3L users, its also in your account" there was just a remark about the Plugins also running on our systems...
yeah great, as I we couldn't figure that out alone.
And when I asked here and the reps in my country I didn't get an answer at all.

That just Not very supportive.

I will say it again: I am even willing to pay for an update, but there has to be one.

Look here:
http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=387437

But as I said, S6L owners got them for free..... we have to pay... its just a couple bucks, but still.....

And there will be more Plugins soon, SKnote from Italy is programming some, and at namm there were some shown from different companies
