Default Monitoring SACD Player

Hello,

I am new to the world of Pro Tools with an Accel system and a 192. I am trying to monitor my Panasonic SACD player through the 192 and to my speaker system (Genelec 1031s and sub). I am connected via -10 D-Sub to RCA (Monster Cable) and am using Aux inputs that are routed to the different speakers via the surround panners. I have the 192 inputs set at -10. I am getting signal where it should be but there is a constant humming noise when playing back. I was not getting this when hooked to my TV system and don't have the noise when recording and mixing. At this point, I just want to listen to SACDs etc to get an idea how others are working in these formats (not to mention the Genelecs just sound so good!). I am thinking maybe I need to hook up a reciever and send the outputs of the reciever into the 192 instead of directly from the player. If that is the case do they make a reciever with outputs that will connect? Maybe I missing something but this seems complicated...any help? Thanks very much in advance...

Bryan

Bryan-
What you are experiencing is Ground Loop hum. It's caused by multiple paths to ground. Here's what i suggest:

Balance up your SACD player output. You can get a number of Line level Balancing solutions that will do a -10dBv to +4dBu conversion. 6 Ch will run you anywhere from $150 to $300, depending on what you buy. THis is the best solution. You would then use to +4dBu Inputs on your 192.

hope this helps-
-Todd A.

P.S.-Also make sure that you are no having a Ground Reference problem. Make sure that all your electrical grounds are hooked up, and dont use Cheater plugs to defeat the ground. Big No-No. Ok, Peace.
