Default D-Command newbie setup question

Just bought a D-Command ES with 24 faders, Xmon and two (2) Avid 192 converters. I have been using a 2012 Mac Mini i7 with two (2) SSD's and several external drives running PT 12.7.1 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks. My current interface is Mackie 1640i Firewire mixer. I also have Avid Eleven Rack standing by if this helps during my transition to D-Command.

What additional equipment must I purchase, and what versions of PT and Mac OS must I implement?

Thanks!

Nick

Hey Nick! Wanted to make sure you got either this or my email...

Congrats on the 24 fader ES! You wouldn’t believe how hard it’s been for me to find an ES fader pack… hell, even finding a 24+ full set! I have just the main pack and it’s amazing.

Regarding your setup… You should be totally good to go! Correct me if I’m wrong, but you have Thunderbolt 2 on that machine and only 1 ethernet port?

All you need to do is is hook up the ethernet. If you’re relying on your internet to be hard-wired by ethernet, just hook up the D-Command and your Mac Mini to a switch, or directly to your modem/router if you have enough ports.

...................[]——— D-Command
Modem ———[] (switch)
...................[]——— Mac Mini

Within Pro Tools, go to Setup > Peripherals > Ethernet Controllers

Select your (only) ethernet port, it should auto-populate, then it will scan the network for any connected controllers (even on the other side of your house lol)
--if you use a usb to ethernet type of dongle, just select that port instead--

Then, the first drop-down for #1, you should see “Main Unit” (unless previous owner renamed it)
Then, the first drop-down for #2, you should see “Fader Pack” (unless previous owner renamed it)
Click ok.

Regarding your XMon, hook up your 15 pin from the back of the D-Command main unit to the 15 pin on the XMon. Your DB25 cables will be fed to and from your 192s.

That’s it! You’re going to absolutely LOVE it.

Try it out and let me know if it works out for you… or if it doesn’t.

Feel free to reach out if you need other help.

You don't say if your PT 12.7 is HD...you need HD or Ultimate to use the D Command. Worth mentioning.

If I had a dollar for all the people I have come across that have bought some form of Icon without realising you need a HD system to use it... I would have four dollars...

I'm using PT 12.7.1 Native, not HD. OK, so I understand I probably must upgrade to Ultimate.

Thanks to everyone for your responses!

Not associated with this seller, but it might come in handy. It's a pretty reasonable price when converted to USD.

Ultimate for sale
