Re: Best Sound Effects ?
the general from sound ideas (the 6000 series) covers a lot of stuff, but would cost a little more than $1K

Re: Best Sound Effects ?
All the libraries have their strengths and weaknesses, although some have mostly weaknesses, like DeWolfe.
I don't recommend Hanna Barbera or Warner Brothers for professional work, they're too cartoony (for obvious reasons). Likewise, you might want to avoid Sound Ideas 1000 and 4000, Producers, Valentino, and Major Records. Premiere edition, SI6000, and Hollywood edge can usually fill the bill for easy effects, but the sounds in them have become tired, particularly the Premiere edition. Libraries have their place, but if you have the option, spend the $1k on more recording gear. |

Re: Best Sound Effects ?
I dunno if you're looking for JUST general libraries or what, but I can't recommend Hanna-Barbera any higher!!! It has all the classic cartoon stuff plus some really good general stuff too (but KSutton is right, 'The General 6000' IS the way for meat/potatos--if you add 'The General Extension I' to it---but can be big bucks ~$2300.00 for both sets)
Warner Bros. is great too, but I've gotten more use from the HB library. Both are $500.00 each. Check out www.sound-ideas.com Good Luck!! Mark BTW: Has anyone ever used the 'De Wolfe Library'?? I've always been curious about those... [This message has been edited by Strider (edited April 16, 2001).] |

Re: Best Sound Effects ?
We've got the general 6000 & it's great material for working up new FX.
but... A couple of CDs have walked out of here. Wishing to protect our investment and not have to continually pony up for replacements, I decided to copy them all and use the copies for production and keep the (remaining) originals locked up. Unfortunately, no matter how I copy them (Adaptec, Hoei Sangyo 8880) I always lose the handy indexes within each track. Anybody know how to save that index info when making backup copies? -DL [This message has been edited by rickyshand (edited April 17, 2001).]

Re: Best Sound Effects ?
Sound Ideas 6000 covers a lot of territory, but in my opinion, Hollywood edge is more usefull. ( and I've sold stuff to Sound Ideas!
