Clothes and camera noise
Any tips on techniques for getting rid of clothes noise on lavs, and camera (super 16) noise (other than paying for additional plugins)?
The clothes rustle is the biggest problem I've got at the moment. I've tried EQs, editing round it, and Isotope RX so far. All with very limited results. The camera noise is less of a problem, as it's generally masked by dialogue in the important sections, but it would be nice to not have to edit out all the natural room tone and good movement in scenes that won't have a lot of added BGs.

Re: Clothes and camera noise
Izotope RX should help certain spots. Clever dialog editing helps a lot (filling gaps with roomtone). Also, not making a joke, but I've spent the last week dirtying up the dialog track on this film that I'm currently working on. Luckily, this is a "handheld" youtube type of movie. You might want to try that a bit, in moderation. That might work for you.

Re: Clothes and camera noise
RX and editing work for me between vocal sounds, but when it's right over a word I can't get anywhere with it. The rustle doesn't seem to show up in the Spectral Repair window most of the time so it's difficult to know what to take out.

Re: Clothes and camera noise
Judicious editing around the actual dialogue in conjunction with RX DeClicker (specifically) has generally got me out of trouble.
If ADR isn't possible then alt. takes (or words) can solve the problem too. Good luck. |

Re: Clothes and camera noise
Using alternate takes is always a good idea to try first.
There was a thread about decrackling about a week ago that suggests a few plugs you might want to get. (Sorry, I know you stated that you don´t want to use any more money) Spectral repair has helped me out some times.

Re: Clothes and camera noise
Editing and looking for alternate takes is the way to go.
For clothes noise, I usually try the Waves X-crackle plugin: it helps a bit |

Re: Clothes and camera noise
X-Crackle has saved me a few times. It won't get rid of it completely, but it will minimize the noise to a tolerable level if alts and edits don't work out.
