Default MTRX Studio questions

Greetings Guru gal and guys,
I am brand new to Dante, bear with me.
Just got the brand new MTRX Studio, and I am running Pro Tools Ultimate (2020.5.0) on a Mac Pro. Communication is good when plugged in the interface via Ethernet (Dante). But Pro Tools does not "see" it, am I missing something?
Also, after downloading the MTRX_Studio_Profiles, Dadman is giving me an error message that it cannot find the unit. The unit is there, but the serial number does not match.
Any hints and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
R

I would highly recommend starting with the following video which should answer many of your questions.

Thanks for your quick responds guys (quicker than me ;-)
To furthermore the troubleshooting:

- No, I am not using a switch (going from MacPro Ethernet out to MTRX Dante 1)

- Thanks for the Youtube link (I listened to it many times), but it doesn't answer my questions. First it agrees with me that the different serial number affects using the presets, then nothing. Secondly, it assumes an HDX interface, which I don't have.

Is the Dante Virtual Soundcard an avenue for a solution?
Cheers,
R

Yes, the recommended way to connect a MTRX Studio interface is with an HDX or HD Native engine. In doing so, it is recommended to connect both 32-channel DigiLink ports for 64 channels and the most flexibility of bidirectional analog and digital interfacing. If expanding beyond a single HDX card, multiple sets of 64 channel IO connections can be made when adding a 2nd MTRX Studio. This can also facilitate Dolby Atmos workflows when interconnecting a Dante based renderer running DAMS.

Alternative means of connectivity include IP Audio with Dante. The best way to connect (lowest latency for example) would be with a PCIe based interface from Focusrite or Yamaha:
https://pro.focusrite.com/category/a...m/rednet-pcier
https://usa.yamaha.com/products/proa...8-d/index.html

It is also possible to use a virtual audio driver with Audinate's Dante Virtual Soundcard (DVS). If using DVS, you should try and minimize the buffer setting (Dante Latency) - which spans from 4 ms -> 10 ms.

Regarding loading existing or preset monitor profiles (.dmprof files), after choosing the profile to open you will indeed get an error message if the monitor profile was created on a device with a different serial number. Simply hit Cancel, go to Settings > Monitor Profile, choose your unit from the menu (Select unit) then tick Enable monitor.

Regarding networking for DADman management and IP Audio, it is highly recommended to have at least a Gigabit switch if not a router to connect MTRX Studio, workstations and any other Dante devices. Here's a knowledge base document from Audinate on best practices for networks with Dante:

Greetings folks,
good news I got it to work, downloaded Audinate's Dante Virtual Soundcard (and the controller). No HDX hardware.
Thanks for your inspiring responds.

Seriously consider HD Native at a minimum.
The MTRX Studio will work without HD Native or a HDX card but you aren't getting the most out of it, or getting particularly low latency.

best,

Jeff

this may come across as a stupid question but what would be the purpose of connection both digilink ports to the mtrx studio? assuming that the adat connects are sub par to other digital connections what advantages does this provide above and beyond it being a 16x16 io box?

also I'm assuming that the lowest latency is thru digi link. does this box report delay compensation figures accurately during tracking? can this be done via pcie dante card as well?

what are the latency figures lets say at 48k of mtrx studio vs omni /hd oi using digilink? what is latency of mtrx studio using pcie card?

thanks,

ej

More channels of Pro Tools output to route to a Dolby renderer for one. One can do a fair bit of mixing with 64 channels of beds and objects in an Atmos mix. Half as wide as the full MTRX but still useful.
