It's truly mind-blowing how this company keeps digging its own grave with its unapologetic greed. You have thousands of pissed off customers, and what do you do? Ask for MORE money. Good job you assclowns.

This is the only question we have left it seems. Any chance for an official answer?

Is this HD & Vanilla, or just HD???? Purchased or subscription???

I just read the facebook thing, and I'm more confused than ever. I let my vanilla license lapse for a few weeks just see what would happen. I got another with no penalty.

What the heck Avid? Do you really want me to leave that badly?

Wow. They never cease to amaze. So it you lapse for 2 years, your bill is a few bucks short of $2k.

The message is simple enough really. Either keep paying us for the rest of your life, or keep the version you have til you really HAVE to upgrade and pay us even more. Nice.

Avid meets Bank of America, the plan is starting to sound like a credit card with penalties and interest.
They want us to pay maintenance fees because they are like, hey... studios use to have to pay thousands to maintain their analog gear, tape machines and consoles. We made big mistake just letting them buy our software and plugins for a one time fee, lets start a maintenance ....no no .....we will call it a support plan!
Ok rant over...sigh.

It all sounds pretty swell to me! Just imagine the awesome sales they'll be able to do because of the new reinstatement rules…

4th of July Sale: Take $7 off the monthly penalty for lapsed Support Plans! PLUS, save an additional 4% off the Re-Establishment Fee!

Christmas 2016 Sale: For one day only, we're waiving the 25% Re-Establishment Fee! Monthly penalty still applies: minimum payment of 12 months penalty or actual accumulated monthly penalty, whichever is greater. Offer valid only on Christmas Day when you're most likely spending time with your family. Merry Christmas, y'all!

April 1st "Get Current" Sale: Lapsed HD Support Plan? No problemo! Here's $50 on us! Just pay the 25% Re-Establishment Fee plus $50 for each month after your Support Plan expiration date, and "Get Current"!

However we look at it, vanilla users will have to pay $x/month and HD users $y/month (in support or subscriptions). A speculative look into the Pro Tools future ...

Somewhere in Avid, there's a spreadsheet showing the number of each type of users and best/worst case churn scenarios (for lost Pro Tools customers and new users).

The confusion clarified by Marianna is surely based on information which Avid have just cleared for her to post - they are well aware of the calls for this from HD users and the general disatisfaction in the announced lapsed plan policy for vanilla (although apparantly, they can change their minds - did the $899 new licence information come from a qualified source?)

If Avid were to have any second thoughts on the PT12, Everywhere and new licensing launch fiasco, whoever changes or clarifies their policy has to flex the user numbers and fees in the aforementioned spreadhsheet ... and if the result doesn't match what the board and shareholders want to hear, it's a bad plan.

After 2016, most here expect Avid will realise this ... and whoever designed the licensing policy for them will be found responsible (not the board who set the unrealistic and fixed financial targets).

Hopefully at this point, everyone on a lapsed PT11 (or earlier) version will be offered a special upgrade offer to get up-to-date ... and the whole thing will start again (some will learn from the experience and move on) ... so the new support plans will be $299 and $799 to make up the shortfall from fewer users.

The fact that this tidbit of info was announced with a quick Facebook comment is galling. i.m.o.

Wow.... They think they really deserve it. Avid YOU need to earn it. This is very disappointing.
