Ok cool. I’m on 2020.12 Vanilla PT with a M1 Mini.
Maybe I’ll try reinstalling Kontakt.

Yes I reinstalled Kontakt. It’s good to go. No hangs no crashes on startup.

That's really strange, usually Avid is really on top of supporting the latest systems...

Huh. I can't get Native Access to load on my M1 MacBook Air.
Oh well.

Remains to be seen if this transition actually begun with Catalina (64-bit code only) or Big Sur (support for Apple Silicon), but there is still a long way to go until Intel code can be dropped.
Much has changed in 15 years. The fundamentals of the transition are different. The tools, languages and method of legacy support for running Intel apps on the Apple Silicon OS are vastly different.

From an engineering perspective it's not a comparable situation. Technologies such as modern just in time and ahead of time compilation and the ability to memory order for x86 in the chip weren't used in the PPC/Intel transition. Apple was able to design the chip to be more effectively able to run x86 apps on Apple Silicon. There are issues with software using KEXTs, x86 VMs and x86 assembler. Otherwise if one has followed Apple programming and API guidelines the x86 apps for the most part will run well under Rosetta 2.

Did you change your start up disk security settings?

Before a legacy system extension can be completed installed on a M1 the security settings have to be reduced.
